Okay. So it’s really bad!! I am wanting to read more and more again. I finally graduated and now I’m drowning myself with books to read.
Reading is a popular pastime for many people; it’s relaxing and fun. If you read every day, your brain will be able to retain more information than if you are not reading. It also allows you to use more of your critical thinking skills. Reading helps your imagination flourish and improves the vocabulary that we have when we speak. Reading is an amazing way to relax the mind and get rid of the stresses of the day. It is like a mental workout for those parts of our brains that need it most.
When you work on a computer all day, you know it can be a little painful on your eyes.
Fortunately, there’s a better option—one that keeps me reading as much as possible. This month, I downloaded the free Kindle app for my phone and computer, and I’m enjoying it so much more than the screen time. It uses a specific type of display called e-ink, which is much easier on the eyes than the usual screen in our devices. With this app, I can read books wherever I am and whenever I want to—not just when I have access to traditional printed books. And since it’s mobile-friendly, it’s extremely convenient for traveling or for reading before bed without having to haul out a bunch of books or lug around my laptop. It’s also nice because you can download it for free from Amazon and download different books for free too (I learned about this from a friend who reads all her novels this way). Goodreads is also an excellent resource; they have a free app where you can keep track of all your finished/current/future reads!
Another perk? You can even read in another language if you want.
The Kindle app is free, and there are thousands of books that are free too!
There are a lot of books out there. Think about that for a second. There are so many books you can't possibly read them all. Now think about how to get the books you want to read without spending a ton of money because we're adults now and we have to worry about things like that.
If you love reading but hate paying for it, there is some good news: the Kindle app is free and there are thousands of free books available through Amazon. Some of these free books require no purchase whatsoever; other freebies become available if you buy something from Amazon or subscribe to their newsletter, and others are only temporarily free (usually as part of a promotion).
The Kindle app replaces that backlight with an easy-to-read e-ink display that won't hurt your eyes.
Don’t let the bright light of your tablet be the only thing standing between you and a book. Most tablets these days are made with LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. These screens have a backlight that makes it easy to read in dark or bright situations, and they look great while doing so. However, the backlight can strain your eyes and make it harder to fall asleep after reading. Using an e-ink display like the one found on Kindle e-readers instead will be much easier on your eyes and won’t strain them as much.
A side effect of using an e-ink screen is that it’s easier on your battery as well. E-ink uses less power than an LCD screen, which means you can read for longer without having to charge your device as often.
Electronic e-readers have become my favorite must-off gadget.
Your e-reader makes it possible to read books by authors you might not have discovered otherwise, which is a huge benefit. It can also help you find new ways of thinking about topics that are important to you. For example, if you want to learn about investing in real estate or trading foreign currency, there are many different books on the topic that will give you guidance and advice. And the best part? All those books are available for download onto your e-reader from Amazon's Kindle store!
The dictionary is built-in so if you want to read a book in another language, or just learn some new words, it's right there. You don't need to fold the corner down or highlight a word.
If you are reading a book in another language or just want to learn some new words, the built-in dictionary makes it very easy to look up new terms. You don't ever need to flip through the pages of a physical dictionary or use another application on your smartphone. It's all built into the e-reader itself, which is one of my favorite features. In addition, because of its e-ink display, Kobo doesn't tire out your eyes as much as using an iPad or iPhone would—it's more like reading from a physical book. I find that it's also much easier to read from than a computer screen because I'm not forced to sit in one place and stare at the screen for long periods of time.
The screen is black and white, and it's e-ink so it doesn't hurt your eyes. It's easier to read than on a laptop or phone because it makes reading more comfortable and doesn't strain your eyes as much. The device has the look of paper but with all the benefits of technology.
Reading is wonderful for you, for increasing your vocabulary & knowledge and learning about things you've never thought about.
Reading is an inherently intimate activity: It happens at whatever pace suits your mood best and lets you choose which sense is most activated. If you get tired of reading words on a page, then switch over to listening or watching instead - or even take part yourself by joining a local book club!
Plus, doing something that engages your mind so actively is good for more than just entertainment value alone.
Reading has always been my primary source of entertainment.
Reading is fun and relaxing. It's a good way to learn new things and escape from reality. Reading is also a great way to exercise your brain. A study cited by the University of Sussex showed that reading for just 6 minutes a day can effectively reduce stress levels by 68%.
There are so many options for reading; you just have to figure out what works best for you!
But here's the one thing I know to be true: there are so many options for reading. There are books, of course; there are also magazines and newspapers, blogs (like this one!), and audiobooks. There are podcasts, like my favorite Woman Evolve by Sarah Jakes Robert; there is also plain ol' conversation with people you care about. In fact, there is probably a way of reading that works best for you—maybe it's reading while walking on the treadmill or listening to music (soft jazz or lofi is my fav) at the same time. Maybe it's just reading a paragraph before bedtime every night or taking an hour out of your week to go sit in a coffee shop with your laptop and read articles online. Whatever it is, figure out what kind of reading works best for you!
I’ll close with this one….

I relate to this post so much! I love reading and have not missed all the screen time I gave up for an ereader or paper book.
