A Few Things I Learned About Myself During my Staycation

Vacations are a perfect time to learn about yourself and the world around you. They give us a chance to get away from our everyday lives, but also a chance to grow and improve ourselves. The lessons that I've learned on my vacations have changed me for the better in so many ways. Here's what I learned:

It's important to spend time with people who are different from you.

Spending time with people who are different from you is important. You can learn a lot from them and it will help you grow as a person.

I was on vacation last week, and I had the opportunity to spend some time with a friend who is very different from me. She's very passionate about her work, and she has goals that are very different than mine in life right now. It was really interesting to hear about what she's trying to accomplish in her career because I think that it helped me realize that there are other paths out there than just work-work-work all day long every day of your life without ever stopping to enjoy anything else (that’s my current path). I think spending time with someone like her might even give me some ideas for how to make changes in my own job!

You can learn a lot just by observing people.

  • You can learn a lot just by observing people. I know that sounds obvious, but it's true. I've learned so much this month by watching others and listening to their stories—not necessarily because they were telling me anything profound or life-changing, but just because of how different their experiences are from mine. And it was fun!

  • You can learn a lot from people who are similar to you. This one has been my favorite part of vacation: getting to enjoy empty spaces and quiet moments. It has allowed me to enjoy being in the presence of others in my own solitude. Observing others has taught me that life for everyone else is different. What is normal for me may seem abnormal for someone else. It has allowed me to be grateful for what my life looks like.

It's okay to lose friends along the way.

You may find that your friends are not as supportive as you think. They might say things like, "I'm losing my best friend," or "I wish he would just come back." These comments can be hurtful, but the truth is that they don't know what's going on in your life and they don't know why you made this decision.

Even if it does feel like a breakup at first, it isn't! You will make new friends along the way and maybe even better ones than before! You have to be true to yourself; no one will always agree with everything you do. It's okay not to please everyone all of the time because then there wouldn't be any diversity in our world. Sometimes we need time for ourselves instead of always having people around us who we don't really connect with anymore - so take some time away from them too!

You can't please everyone all of the time.

I was raised by a mother who taught me that you can’t please everyone all of the time. She also made sure to point out that it doesn’t matter if you do because it takes more than pleasing others to be happy in life. Now as an adult, I agree with her wholeheartedly on both accounts.

I had been feeling pressure from all sides to do this trip or that event and meet new people and make new friends—even though I didn't want any of those things at all!

It wasn't until I stopped trying so hard to meet other people's expectations for myself, and started focusing on what I actually wanted from my vacation (time alone), that things started working out better for me.

Sometimes you need to take some time for yourself.

Sometimes it's hard to take time for yourself, especially if your job involves taking care of other people. When you're working in a corporate education setting, there is always someone else who needs your help and it can be difficult to find the space to focus on yourself and recharge.

For some people, that can mean a vacation away from work or home—but sometimes that isn't possible. It's still important to make sure you're taking care of yourself regardless of what kind of schedule you have. If you feel like your mental health is suffering because of how much responsibility has been placed on your shoulders lately (or any other reason), then now is the time for self-care!

There are lots of ways we can practice self-care: going out with friends after work on the weekend; scheduling an appointment with a therapist; reading books by candlelight; getting enough sleep every day (yes even if there’s laundry); or maybe even something as simple as writing in a journal while listening to music before bedtime will help reduce stress levels throughout the day too!

Sometimes it's good to be bored.

Sometimes, it's good to be bored. That might sound like a strange thing to say, but hear me out:

You can use your time off as an opportunity to reflect on your life and what you want it to look like moving forward.

You can use this time to work on your hobbies, which you may not have been able to do in the past because of work or school obligations.

You might also want to take advantage of your vacation by reading a book—you could even try reading one of these books about happiness!

Sometimes doing nothing is more than enough.

There are times when we need to do nothing. It's okay. You don't have to be busy all the time. Sometimes sitting in silence, or doing something as simple as reading a book can be more than enough.

Sometimes it's good to spend time with yourself, and it's okay if your friends don't want to spend their days with you (or vice-versa). Sometimes it's important to spend some time alone reflecting on what you want out of life and where you're headed next—and this is totally fine!

Vacations are full of good lessons that we should all welcome into our lives

Vacations are full of good lessons that we should all welcome into our lives. Vacation time is a great time to reflect on what you've learned, grow as a person, and spend time with family.

The summer vacation season is coming up, so why not take advantage of this opportunity?

Conclusion

Now that you've read my story, I hope you're inspired to go out on your own journey and make the most of the time you have. There's no one right way to do it, but there are lots of ways that can be just as good for you. You just need a little courage and some curiosity about what's out there waiting for us all. Please remember, you are worth the quiet moment, the deeper breath, the time it takes to slow down, be still and rest.
